Moravia School-wide Participation in the Live Healthy Iowa Program
Moravia School is excited to announce our school-wide participation in the 100 day Live Healthy Iowa Program for kids and adults. This energized, governor endorsed program is designed to motivate both kids and adults to be more physically active, and to make healthier food choices. All students grades K through 12 will be actively engaged in the program, as well as faculty and staff members. The students begin the program on January 17th and faculty/staff on January 23rd. The goal for all is to be active for 60 minutes a day, at least five days a week. Students and staff will track their physical activity minutes and report their totals monthly on their team’s website. Everyone involved will also be educated about their nutrition habits, and will track amounts of fruits, vegetables, and water consumed. The pillars of character (trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship) will be emphasized throughout our involvement in the program and integrated into student activities.
The Live Healthy Iowa Program provides weekly e-mails containing fitness and nutrition tips, games and activities, and a whole lot of encouragement. Teams report their physical activity and nutrition data each month to the Live Healthy Iowa Website in order to be eligible for prizes such as gift cards and cash awards. The collective data is accumulated as lifestyle points and teams garner a ranking among the other teams in the state. The students’ involvement culminates on “Go the Distance” day, Friday May 4th, a statewide celebration of physical fitness. Participating in the Live Healthy Iowa Program is a positive, active way for kids and adults to learn about the importance of being physically active, making healthy food choices, demonstrating the pillars of character, and making fitness and nutrition fun!

15 Beanie Baby-sized toys (enough for 15 kits)
Reminder: The Care Kit item for December is 1 Beanie-Baby sized toy. It does not have to be an actual Beanie-Baby brand toy – but needs to be that size (not bigger!!!) They are roughly 6”-8” tall.
Each month a note will come home asking for you to help the student bring one item to school to make up the kits at the end of the year. In August the item was toothbrushes. Each kit has three toothbrushes. If you didn't send one to school during August, we can still use them this month. Send one or more new (still in the original box) toothbrush(es) to school with your child. Mrs. Cloyed will collect them from the teachers and save them for the kit-making activity the students will be doing with their Character Counts buddies at the end of the year.
In September, the item is one tube of toothpaste (4.0-6.4 oz). Below is a list of what will be packed into each kit in case your family wants to put one together at home as well. Please don’t send all the items at once – each item has a lesson that goes with it in Mrs. Cloyed's guidance groups.
The Crisis Care Kits (CCKs) can include only those items listed on the inventory. Deviating from this list can cause an entire shipment to be rejected in customs.
